in response to new york's new law the nra says tougher laws on guns won't work. they are the same types of laws we expect the president to pitch in a few hours when he rolls out his new plan to control gun violence in this country. among those things he's expected to talk about -- an assault weapons ban and a ban on high capacity magazine clips. congress would have to approve both. then there is a list of 19 different areas he can address through executive order without dealing with it at all. that came from vice president biden's group. from that list some of the things he's expected to talk about today are universal background checks. in other words you get a background check whether you buy the gun online, at a gun show or a retail store, even from a private party. mental help, money for school security all expected on the president's agenda when he makes the announcement this morning. >> all right. thank you for that. something we'll continue to follow. it's 5:43 now. in the meantime, police in marin county collected more than 800 guns during buyback programs
